Museum of the Moon

The Museum of the Moon is a traveling artwork by British artist Luke Jerram.

The moon measures seven meters in diameter and features detailed NASA images of the lunar surface at 120 dpi. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimeter of the internally illuminated spherical sculpture represents 5 km of the lunar surface.

Over its lifetime, the museum will often present the Moon in different ways, both indoors and outdoors, changing the experience and interpretation of the artwork. As it travels from location to location, it collects new musical compositions and an ongoing collection of personal responses, stories and mythologies, and highlights the latest lunar science.

The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and a surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Dan Jones.

Each venue also organizes its own ideas for moon-inspired events under the moon.
